The Ten Tenets of a Fit Broke Girl

  1. Broke is not the same thing as being broken. Not having a ton of extra money is okay. Spending what you don’t have is not okay.
  2. When you treat yourself, make sure it’s not at the expense of your future self. Don’t spend what you don’t have hoping to afford it tomorrow. That goes for cash and calories.
  3. If you’re broke, you are going to have to work harder and smarter. Who’s afraid of a little hard work?
  4. Life is not fair, and that is okay. You make your own luck. Don’t wait for someone else to even the playing field. You will wait around forever.
  5. You don’t need a lot of money, if you have a lot of time. Having extra time saves money and aggravation.
  6. You don’t need a lot of time if you learn to be prepared. The more you prep the easier it becomes.
  7. It’s okay to go slow. Slow change over radical change is always more sustainable.
  8. The more you think of your present status as a punishment, the more stuck you get. Enjoying the process is the key to progress!
  9. Be honest with yourself. You can’t lie to your scale or bank account.
  10. Eyes on your own prize. You are your only competition!
